• Innovative Sensor Solution for

    Bio-Based Materials.

Predicting the behavior of bio-based materials is complex due to the numerous variables influencing their transformation. To accurately track these changes, we have collaborated with TNO in Delft to develop an advanced sensor. This sensor measures various environmental factors to provide a clear understanding of material behaviors. It operates independently, is wireless, requires no external power, and is compact, measuring only 16 mm in diameter and 45 mm in height. Typically used as a plug, the sensor can be placed in hard-to-reach areas.

The sensor can perform a minimum of 10,000 measurements

without needing a battery replacement or recharge. This means

it can take one measurement per day for up to 30 years or perform

more frequent measurements over a shorter period. Positioned at

the end of the plug, the sensor can measure variables such as moisture, carbon dioxide, pressure, movement, temperature, nitrogen, particles, sound, or a combination of these factors.

  • Comprehensive Connectivity Options.

Sensor readings are transmitted via Bluetooth to a central unit and then to a data server for further processing. For field measurements, the LoRa network is used, transmitting data via gateways to the same data server. Additionally, LTE, 4G/5G, or satellite connections can be utilized, depending on application requirements.

  • Powerful Predictive Models.

Measuring is only part of the solution. Accurate prediction is made possible with the expertise of TNO. The transformation or degradation of bio-based materials is not a linear function. TNO has developed models that extrapolate measurements into the future. This approach improves efficiency, such as predicting the maintenance needs of wooden window frames or determining the curing time of a sand-cement or anhydrite floor.

  • Sustainable and Versatile Applications.

The sensor is suitable for a wide range of applications. Its compact and robust design allows this “miniature sensor” to operate autonomously in diverse locations, such as in trees, coffee sacks, during the transport of perishable goods, or for air quality monitoring in schools.

Our sensor is fully operational, and we are currently developing new versions, including a reusable variant that can be inductively recharged after 10.000 measurements, allowing it to continue its function.
